The police have initiated action after a shocking video from north Kashmir’s Handwara surfaced on the Internet in which a teacher is seen threatening a minor student with an axe.

The incident reportedly took place in Wagat village of Handwara.

In the video, widely circulated on social media, the teacher from Bright Future Education Institute in Wagat Handwara, wearing a pheran and cap, can be seen beating the 10-year-old student with an axe while threatening to assault him.

The horrifying incident of corporal punishment was captured and shared widely on social media sites on Tuesday.

In the video, the student can be seen lying down and the teacher threatening him.

The video triggered angry reactions from residents. In a statement, the J&K Police said it seemed the incident had taken place at Future Education Institute Wagahat Magam. “The cognisance of the same has been taken, consequent to which a case was registered with FIR No. 167/2019 at the Handwara police station under relevant sections of the law,” it said.

The police said the residents having information about the incident were being questioned. They said legal action had been initiated.

4 booked for thrashing man

Rajouri: The Nowshera police have booked four persons, including a woman and her husband, for assaulting and confining a middle-aged man. The victim has been identified as Dalmir of Rani Badetar, while the main accused, Mohd Mansha is from Daryala Dabbar. Mansha was arrested from the bus stand while attempting to flee. Other accused are Mohd Sabar, Mohd Shabeer, both residents of Daryala Dabbar, and Naseer Begum, wife of Mohd Mansha. They have been booked under Sections 323, 341 and 342 RPC. — OC
