JAIPUR: After a drubbing in the Lok Sabha polls, the ruling Congress in Rajasthan won a majority of seats in the panchayat samiti and zila parishad bypolls. Of the 74 panchayat samiti seats, the Congress won 39. The BJP was second with 29 seats. Six Independents won too. In the zila parishad bypolls, the Congress won seven of the nine seats and BJP just one. PTI
Durga Shakti Nagpal is OSD to Vardhan
New Delhi: UP cadre IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal, who had faced suspension by the then Samajwadi Party-led state government for allegedly ordering the demolition of a wall of a mosque's in 2013 in Gautam Budhh Nagar, has been appointed Officer on Special Duty (OSD) with Health Minister Harsh Vardhan. Nagpal had hit headlines when was suspended by Akhilesh Yadav, UP CM in 2013 after she ordered "illegal demolition of a wall of a mosque" as the SDM. Nagpal, 33, earlier served as OSD to former Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh. TNS
Two forest officials hurt in fresh attack in Telangana
Hyderabad: Two days after a woman official was beaten up by villagers, two Forest Department officials were attacked by tribals on Monday night in Timmampet village of Bhadradri-Kothagudem district here when they objected to ploughing of forestland. The Mulkalapally Police said: "Villagers attacked the officials when they were trying to seize a tractor that was being used for ploughing. We have booked 12 persons.” The injured, identified as Forest Section Officer Neelamaiah and Beat Officer Bhaskar Rao, have been admitted to the Paloncha Hospital. TNS
Inspector hurt as notorious criminal freed from custody
Lucknow: In a sensational getaway on Tuesday, criminals shot at a policeman and helped in the escape of an undertrial, Rohit alias Sandu of Mansoorpur village, being taken to Mirzapur jail following a court appearance in Muzaffarnagar. The injured policeman was rushed to hospital and the panicky district officials have been hunting for the criminals. Rohit was facing trial for several heinous crimes. TNS
