Chandigarh, June 26

A patient and his relatives allegedly thrashed a security guard at the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, here, this evening.

Guard Sanjeev Kumar, who was posted in the male medical ward, suffered a lacerated wound on his head and was admitted to the emergency .

Doctors said a relative was already sitting with the patient on bed number 11. When his other relatives came to meet him, the guard asked them to wait. On this, the relatives started arguing with him. In the meantime, the patient also came there and he and his relatives then manhandled and beat him up.

Dr Pramjeet, Deputy Medical Superintendent, GMSH-16, said a complaint had given to the police for necessary action in this regard.

Three other patients also gave a statement that the guard was not at fault, he said.

Dr Pramjeet said this was not the way to behave in the hospital and there were other ways also to express resentment. If they had any problem with the guard, they should have given a complaint to the authorities, he said. — TNS
