In a road rage incident, a girl allegedly attacked a 26-year-old youth with a rod, leaving him injured, near Tribune Chowk this evening. The incident led to high drama and traffic snarls.

Sources said the victim, Nitish, a resident of Sector 29, was heading from Tribune Chowk towards the Poultry Farm roundabout through a slip road along with his family in a Santro car.

The girl, Sheetal Sharma (25), a resident of Mohali who was driving a Maruti SX4, was reportedly reversing her car in a rash and negligent manner, while the victim was coming from the rear side.

The girl and the victim had an altercation following which she parked her car in the middle of the road, blocking the way. She then pulled out a rod from her car and repeatedly hit the youth.

Passersby gathered at the spot and recorded the incident on mobile phones. The police were informed.

A PCR vehicle and the SHO of the Industrial Area police station, Inspector Jasbir Singh, rushed to the spot and the injured youth was taken to the GMCH, Sector 32.

Both vehicles were impounded by the police.

The victim’s statement was recorded and a case registered against the girl under Sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC at the Industrial Area police station. The girl was arrested and will be produced in the court tomorrow. The police said the girl’s medical examination would be conducted at the GMCH, Sector 32.

  • An altercation ensued after which the girl parked her car in the middle of the road. She pulled out a rod from her car and repeatedly hit the youth. He then smashed the windscreen of her car with a stone.
