A 25-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly attacking a man with an iron rod near Tribune Chowk in a case of road rage on Tuesday—an incident that began circulating on social media within hours.

The woman in question has been identified as Sheetal Sharma, a resident of Mohali. Police sources claimed she was trying to reverse her car “rashly” when the 26-year-old victim Nitish’s car came up behind her. The two reportedly began arguing and Sharma, enraged, brought a rod out of her car and began beating Nitish.

Nitish, a resident of Sector 29, Chandigarh, then broke the windscreen of Sharma’s car in response, the sources said quoting Nitish's statement to police. A passerby recorded the incident on his mobile phone.

Sharma's car, parked in the middle of the road, caused traffic snarls.

Nitish was taken reportedly taken to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, for treatment.
Police have impounded both cars.

Sharma has been booked for rash driving (Section 279, Indian Penal Code), punishment for voluntarily causing hurt (Section 323, IPC), punishment for criminal intimidation (Section 506, IPC) and endangering life or personal safety of others (Section 336, IPC) on the basis of Nitish’s statement. She has been released on bail.
