Chandigarh, June 24

Roadside vendors in the city lead to chaos and traffic snarls on city roads. Motorists stop at the stalls leading to traffic jams.

The vendors, especially those selling fruits, sitting on the roadside can be witnessed on various roads, including the road between Transport light point and Tribune Chowk.

Manpreet Singh, a local resident, said vendors have put up their stalls on the entire stretch towards Tribune Chowk, following which many motorists abruptly park their vehicles on the roadside, posing a threat to other motorists.

Similarly, vendors put up their stalls on the road ahead of the Airport light point towards Zirakpur in the evening, which also leads to congestion. Motorists can be seen stopping on the roadside leading to traffic snarls.

Cigarette vendors can also be seen illegally sitting on the roadside.

Inderdeep Singh, a resident of Sector 19, said the Municipal Corporation (MC) and the UT traffic police should conduct joint drives to ensure there are no roadside vendors that interrupt the traffic movement.

“People park their vehicles on roads ignoring the fact they are causing obstruction in traffic movement,” he said.
