As many as 53 toppers of various departments and colleges were awarded during the scholarship awards fucntion, organised by the Panjab University Alumni Association (PUAA), at the PU here today.

They were honoured with scholarships and stipends also. The annual report for financial year 2018-19 was presented, along with the audited annual accounts of the PUAA.

Revised alumni house rent

The rent for using the alumni house has also been revised. For members, the room rent of the house has been pegged at Rs 1,000, and for non-members, it is Rs 1,500. The suite rent for members is Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,000 for non-members. The existing ground rent for members is Rs 15,000, while the proposed rent is Rs 25,000. For non-members, the proposed ground rent is Rs 50,000 — twice the existing rent.

The proposal also states that the rent for small ground be canned completely. The existing rent of the small ground is Rs 7,500 for members and Rs 12,500 for non-members.

Panjab University Vice-Chancellor, Prof Raj Kumar, presided over the annual awards function and the Alumni General Body Meeting here today. In his address, he gave many suggestions to optimise alumni relations and expressed his wish to conduct an international alumni meeting in the future that will increase the relations with alumni which have settled abroad.

An honorary alumni membership was given to Dean, Alumni Relations, Prof Deepti Gupta.

Advocate OP Sharma who was the chief guest gifted his entire collection of around 400 rare books to the university.

Professor Emeritus in Ancient History, Prof Kamlesh Mohan, announced an Endowment Fund in the memory of her father, Janab Kashmiri Lal Zakir.
