Minister of State for Animal Husbandry Pratap Chandra Sarangi on Monday tabled a motion of thanks for President Ram Nath Kovind’s address to the Parliament.
In his speech, Sarangi, a Member of Parliament from Odisha, took several potshots at the Congress.
A significant portion of Sarangi’s speech—meant to thank Kovind for addressing a joint session of the Parliament last Thursday—was spent praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sarangi said the Congress needed to apologise to Modi for trying to undermine a "moorti of tyaag (a model of sacrifice)" like him. He also said that the Congress must be credited for BJP’s “spectacular win” in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
In his speech, Sarangi recounted the work done by Modi in the past five years. He said Modi’s “hero” persona could not have been possible without the Congress playing “villain”.
“Jealousy is a double-edged sword,” Sarangi told the Congress amid protests by Opposition leaders.
Modi, who was present during the speech, was seen laughing as Sarangi took digs at the Congress.
