Chandigarh, June 23

A 24-year-old girl was molested allegedly by two unidentified youths during a party at a nightclub in the Industrial Area on the intervening night of June 21 and 22.

The victim, along with her friends, had gone for a party at Paara, a night club at Central Mall, Phase I, Industrial Area.

The victim has alleged that two youths, who were dancing on the floor, first misbehaved with her and passed objectionable remarks. One of the suspects later touched the victim. She informed bouncers about the incident after which the matter was reported to the police. The suspects, however, had left the spot before they could be apprehended. According to the victim, they were in an inebriated condition.

She submitted a complaint to the police following which a case under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention) of the IPC was registered at the Industrial Area police station.

The police said they would collect the footage of CCTV cameras installed at the club. “We are yet to scrutinise the footage and identify the suspects,” said a cop.

Loud music beyond permissible hours

The police said a patrolling party found loud music being played at Paara around 1.20 am, beyond the permissible hours, on June 23. The police visited the club and asked to show proof of permission to play the music, which the club staff failed to produce, following which a case under Section 188 of the IPC was registered against Kashmir Singh at the Industrial Area police station. Kashmir Singh was arrested and later released on bail.
