Adhere to night timings, DC tells eateries, discos

CHANDIGARH:In view of complaints of disturbance, UT Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mandip Singh Brar has ordered that restaurants, dhabas, discos, clubs and hawking of goods by the roadside and at public places will remain closed between 1 am and 4.

In view of complaints of disturbance, UT Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mandip Singh Brar has ordered that restaurants, dhabas, discos, clubs and hawking of goods by the roadside and at public places will remain closed between 1 am and 4.30 am for a period of 60 days.

The sale and service of liquor will, however, be governed by the excise laws. The order shall not apply to hospitals, chemist shops and petrol pumps. The order will come into force with immediate effect and will continue till August 16.

Commercial establishments/shopkeepers engaged in business till late at night were reportedly causing annoyance and disturbing public peace. There were complaints that some discos and clubs were operating beyond the permissible time. Several vendors engaged in the business of selling \Iparanthas on rehris were also operating till \Ilate at night. This often caused late night brawls and nuisance for local residents.  — TNS
