Karnal, June 19
Hundreds of labourers under the banner of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) today protested in the city demanding that they should be registered online under Haryana Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.
The protesters, led by state organising secretary of the sangh Jang Bhadur Yadav, assembled at a park in Sector 12 and held a protest march to the Mini Secretariat, where they handed over a memorandum to Tehsildar Raj Baksh Arora.
Yadav said there were around 11 lakh registered labourers in the state and around 4.5 lakh of them are not registered online, depriving them of the benefits. These labourers had been visiting offices, but to no avail, he added. Yadav said due to the lethargic approach of officials concerned, the manual books of these labourers expired and they were not getting benefits under government schemes.
He said the government should speed up the online registration process.
