After a drubbing in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly poll, the Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is now crying vendetta over the issue of eviction of former CM Chandrababu Naidu from his riverside house in Amravati Capital Region that he has been occupying since 2016.

Not a government property, the house was taken from a businessman for use as the CM’s residence.

The issue came to light after ruling YSR Congress legislator Alla Ramakrishna Reddy yesterday said the former CM and TDP president would be evicted from his riverside residence.

TDP leader P Keshav said it was the beginning of “vindictive politics”, especially when the government doesn’t own the property.

Naidu has been staying in the “Undavalli House” on the banks of the Krishna since 2016 when Andhra Pradesh shifted its administration to Amaravati from Hyderabad. He rechristened it to be called “Praja Vedika”.

At present, Naidu enjoys the status of a Cabinet minister on account of his being the Leader of Opposition with 23 MLAs (including himself) in 175-member House. He had recently written a letter to the government expressing the desire to stay put at “Praja Vedika”, which is technically in the possession of the government.

Incidentally, a legal battle is on for demolishing all structures in the vicinity of the Krishna, including “Praja Vedika”. The ruling party has maintained that all buildings violating the River Conservancy Act, 1884, will be demolished.
