Ludhiana, June 18

Work was badly hit at the district administration offices as employees went on indefinite pen-down strike today. Members of the Punjab State District (DC office) Employees Union, Ludhiana, have demanded fulfilment of their demands at the earliest.

The staff at the SDM and sub-registrar offices were also on strike. President of the union Parkash Singh said the government had failed to meet their demands, thus forced them to go on indefinite strike.

“We demanded the early release of dearness allowance instalments pending for the past 23 months. The government should fill vacant posts and promote old employees. We also demanded the introduction of a pension scheme for those recruited after 2004,” he said.

“Our senior union members will take further decision on the pen-down strike,” said an employee.

The visitors to the SDM, sub-registrar and DC offices were seen returning without getting their work done.

A resident, Gaganpreet Singh, said: “The government should take steps to prevent harassment to the visitors. The matter should be resolved at the earliest.”

The staff had gone on strike for seven days in February.
