Heads of KU satellite campuses told to send monthly reports

To bring accountability in the functioning, the University of Kashmir (KU) has asked the heads of various departments and satellite campuses to send monthly reports about the attendance of students, the number of classes taken and syllabus covered every month.

In the latest notification, the Deputy Registrar said, “this is to inform all heads/directorates/coordinators of the main as well as satellite campuses to send detailed information on a given format on a monthly basis for the perusal of the authorities.”

Recently, the university was ranked A+ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Committee (NAAC). A team from NAAC visited the university recently after 2011. For three years, the varsity was without the accreditation as its certification had expired in 2016 thus it was ineligible for funds from the University Grants Commission.

After new Vice Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad took over eight months ago, he worked towards getting the NAAC accreditation for the university. Various facilities were improved ahead of the NAAC team’s visit in May first week. The KU ranking has been upgraded from A to A+, making it eligible for huge funds granted by the Central government under various schemes.

An official said the latest directions for the heads of the various campuses of the varsity had been issued to bring more accountability among the teachers as well as officials heading the campuses. This would also streamline academic affairs, he said.

“The university has improved a lot since last year. The Vice Chancellor is aiming to bring accountability among the staff and working towards improving quality in academics that was down in the past four years,” the official said.

He said the VC had brought many changes in the administration and relieved people who were holding additional changes to streamline system.
