Jammu, June 17

Taking note of the alleged poor functioning of management committees of a majority of private schools in the region, the Directorate of School Education Jammu has now directed all institutes to include parents and teachers in these panels for better functioning.

The management committee is the main body of a private school which runs and manages its day-to-day affairs. It is also responsible for the implementation of the rules and guidelines governing permission, recognition and affiliation of the school.

School principal, who acts as its member-secretary, is responsible for the proper implementation of the rules, guidelines and decisions of the committee.

Sources said the directions for composition of the management committees were issued by the DSEJ after it came to the fore that some of the panels of private schools comprised members of a single family or government employees.

They added that the school directorate had made it clear to all heads of private schools that their respective management committees must consist of eight to 12 members, including parents, teachers, women, members of SC/ST and local social workers.

Every school has to display the list of management committee members along with their contact numbers on the school premises.
