New Delhi, June 16

A slum dweller was allegedly beaten up by the police at Kalkaji temple on Saturday.

Sarita (40) said she was sitting outside the temple when two cops (not in uniform) came and started searching her bags. When they didn’t find anything, they took her to a room and fractured both her legs.

“The cops thought I was a thief. After I was beaten up by the two cops, more policemen came there and thrashed me. There was no woman constable with them,” she alleged.

The victim alleged they asked her for the phone numbers of her sons. “They called my son Anoop (21) and threatened him. They asked us to never show up near the temple again,” she said.

“When we reached the Kalkaji police station to file a complaint, cops chased us away and threatened to put us in jail,” Anoop alleged.

Chinmoy Biswal, DCP, South East, said, “I am not aware of the incident but will look into the matter and take action.”
