Police party attacked by mob, 2 in custody freed

KAITHAL: A team of the Crime Branch of the Kaithal police, which had gone to arrest some persons involved in a theft case from Kallar Majra village under Cheeka police station late on Thursday evening, was attacked with bricks and sticks by a group of persons.

A team of the Crime Branch of the Kaithal police, which had gone to arrest some persons involved in a theft case from Kallar Majra village under Cheeka police station late on Thursday evening, was attacked with bricks and sticks by a group of persons.

They managed to get two wanted persons freed from police custody.

On a complaint lodged by Head Constable Jasmer Singh of the police party, the Cheeka police have registered a case against Bheera Ram, Indira Devi, Dhanna Ram, Zaila Ram, Charna Ram, Pola Ram, a youth (22) identified as son of Desa Ram and a woman identified as the wife of Zaila Ram.

In his complaint, injured Jasmer Singh said that the police had arrested one Sumit Kumar of Cheeka during investigation of a case registered on April 28. Sumit told the police about the involvement of Pola Ram and Zaila Ram of Kallar Majra in the case.

The Crime Branch team took the staff of Cheeka police station along and went to Kallar Majra last evening and overpowered Pola Ram and Zaila Ram from near their shop in the village. As the police was questioning them, a group of persons started throwing bricks, attacked the police party with sticks and got Pola and Zaila freed. Then, all of them fled away.
