Ludhiana June 16

Members of the CPI along with residents of Rishi Nagar held a protest outside the PAU police station today demanding action against a man who had allegedly taken divorce from his wife by threatening her. They further alleged that later, he had also thrashed her.

Gurnam Sandhu, a member of the CPI who led the protest, said Anu got married to a resident of Rishi Nagar in 2014 and she also gave birth to a girl child, who is now five-year-old.

In 2017, the man took divorce from Anu by threatening her and forcing her to sign a divorce papers. The woman then started living with someone else and the girl child was forcibly taken away by her husband.

That divorce was not valid and so the woman had again entered the house of her ex-husband living in Rishi Nagar yesterday. Yesterday night, her husband thrashed the woman and a complaint was also filed at the police station, but no action was taken. Today’s dharna lasted for half an hour as the police assured that action will be taken.
