A number of farmers of Machhiwara area today held a protest on Neelon-Ropar Road against POWERCOM officials for not resuming the power supply of Behlolpur-Barma-Herian villages for the past five days.
The protesters raised slogans against the POWERCOM officials and staged a dharna on the Neelon-Ropar Road for some time, demanding resumption of power supply without any delay.
The farmers, including Karamjit Singh, sarpanch of Barma village; Kulvir Singh and Sukha Singh, alleged that despite assurances to give power supply from June 13, the supply from Behlolpur POWERCOM office is shut for the past five days.
Machhiwara SHO Ramaninder Singh reached the spot and tried to pacify the farmers. Behlolpur POWERCOM SDO Harpreet Singh also reached the spot and told the farmers that a technical problem had persisted as a wire was cut and they would solve this problem by this evening. He assure that the power supply would be resumed after which the farmers opened the traffic blockade.
