Foreign dreams go sour, woman cheats youth of Rs 22 lakh

BATHINDA: The police have booked a woman, four members of her family along with four others for allegedly duping a man of Rs 22 lakh of sending him to Canada on the pretext of marriage.

The police have booked a woman, four members of her family along with four others for allegedly duping a man of Rs 22 lakh of sending him to Canada on the pretext of marriage.

Complainant Rashmohan Singh (23), a resident of Hamirgarh, alleged that Harpreet Kaur, who lives in Canada, cheated him of Rs 22 lakh. He said Beant Kaur, a resident of his village approached his family with a marriage offer. Harpreet hailed from Kauni village in the Muktsar district.

The cops said the accused had spent huge amount of money on Harpreet and also paid her coaching fee. However, after reaching Canada, the woman stopped responding to his calls, the police said.

The accused include Harpreet Kaur, Bachittar Singh, Angrej Kaur, Gurveer Singh, Lovepreet Kaur, Beant Kaur, Manpreet Kaur, Baljeet Kaur and Sarabjeet Kaur.

Dyalpura police station Station House Officer said a case has been registered under Sections 420 and 120 B of the Indian Penal Code but no arrest has been made till now.
