A murder case in Gangotri Vihar has been cracked with the arrest of accused Ajay Singh Raghav. A tag on the shirt collar of the victim was the lead, leading to his identification and arrest of the accused.

On June 8, a telephone call was received at the Kotwali police station that a body was lying on the service lane behind the Red Fort. The police reached the spot, where the body of an unidentified man was found.

During inspection of the body, it was found that the deceased was wearing a shirt which had the tag of New Light Tailor, Depty Ganj, BSR, said the police.

During investigation, the police got a clue that the tailor was in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. A police team was sent to trace the tailor.

The tag and measurements of the shirt helped not only in identifying the tailor, but also the probable customer who had got the shirt stitched, the police said.

On the basis of this information, the victim was identified as Deepak of Bulandshahr. It was found that he had been working at a printing press on the Ansari Road in Daryaganj.

During investigation, more than 100 employees and former workers of the firm where Deepak worked were questioned.

During questioning of persons the deceased had been in contact with, various inconsistencies were found in the statement of Raghav, a resident of Gangotri Vihar and former employee of Jay Pee Publication Firm, the police said.

During sustained interrogation, the accused said they had been working together in the printing press and he had lent Rs 1 lakh  to Deepak for his wedding.

On June 7, Raghav came to Daryaganj and demanded repayment of the loan. On this, Deepak took him to Dadri in Uttar Pradesh.

On his refusal to repay the entire amount, heated arguments ensued between Deepak and Raghav. In a fit of rage, Raghav hit Deepak on the head, rendering him unconscious. Raghav later strangulated Deepak in his car and dumped the body in the Kotwali area. Accused Raghav was arrested on the charge of murder, the police said.
