Dharamsala, June 14

Teachers and managements of private schools have flayed the Education Department for changing the holiday schedule.

General secretary of the Independent Schools Association Vasu Soni said: “Earlier, the Education Department had notified that the summer holidays would begin from July 16. All schools scheduled their academic activities accordingly and now the state government has notified that the holidays in schools would begin from June 26.”

Parents are protesting the sudden change. “We are facing problems as the academic schedule and parent-teacher meetings were scheduled as per the holiday schedule of July 16,” he said.

Vishal Sharma, a parent, said they had already planned their holiday and made bookings. “Now, we are being told that the holidays would begin from June 26. If we cancel the bookings, it will cause financial loss,” he said.

Summer holidays in Himachal coincide with the monsoon. These used to be in July and August, but this year, the government decided to delay the holidays.
