One killed, 2 hurt as car hits scooter in Zirakpur

ZIRAKPUR: In a freak accident that took place near Lucky dhaba on the Patiala-Zirakpur stretch here on Thursday night, a youth was killed and two others were injured after the Activa scooter they were riding was allegedly hit by a Bolero car.

In a freak accident that took place near Lucky dhaba on the Patiala-Zirakpur stretch here on Thursday night, a youth was killed and two others were injured after the Activa scooter they were riding was allegedly hit by a Bolero car.

The victims, all residents of Panchkula district, were triple-riding the scooter without helmet, said sources.

The deceased has been identified as Krishna Kumar (17), who was riding the scooter, according to one of the pillion riders, Anoj. Another youth, who was riding pillion on the scooter, has been identified as Lalu Yadav. They are undergoing treatment at the GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh.

According to police statement, Ranjit Kumar, brother of the deceased, said the trio was heading towards Bakarpur village from Panchkula for their work when their scooter was reportedly hit by the Bolero near Lucky dhaba. Krishna, who was driving the scooter, died on the spot while his two accomplices sustained injuries and were rushed to JP Hospital, Zirakpur. They were further referred to the GMCH-32, Chandigarh.

Narinder Kaushal, who was behind the wheel of the car, told the police that he was on his way back home after closing his shop around 10.30 pm. He stated that while he was waiting to take a U-turn, the scooter reportedly driven in a zigzag manner came from behind. In a bid to overtake, the scooter hit his car following which the youths fell off the vehicle and sustained injuries.

Investigating officer Satnam Singh said: “We have registered a case in this connection after recording the statements of the deceased’s brother and started investigations”.

Another P’kula resident dies in road mishap

In another incident, Paramjit Singh, a resident of Panchkula, died after his Activa scooter was hit by a rashly driven car near Zirakpur on Thursday noon. Complainant Amit Dhawan, a resident of Chandigarh, told the police that he, along with his relative Paramjit Singh, was going towards Aerocity road for some work. He stated that when Paramjit reached near AKM Resort, his scooter was allegedly hit by a car bearing Punjab registration number from the rear. The victim was rushed to the PGI, Chandigarh, where he succumbed to his injuries. A case has been registered.
