Man gets 10-year jail for raping minor

Abohar: A special court in Hanumangarh on Thursday sentenced Daleep Singh alias Deepu of Nethrana village to 10-year imprisonment for kidnapping and rape of a minor girl. Holding him guilty under Sections 363, 366 and 376 of the IPC and 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, the court also imposed a fine on the convict of Rs 22,000. The victim’s mother had lodged a complaint against him in August 2014. The girl was allegedly raped in different towns and abandoned after few days. OC

Worker thrashed for cancelling food order

Sangrur: A private company employee was allegedly thrashed by nine persons after the order for chicken was cancelled on Wednesday night. Varinder Singh, who works in private food delivery company as delivery partner, alleged that on wednesday night he cancelled an order for chicken as the persons, who had given the order, were allegedly drunk. Later, at least nine persons, who had given the order, attacked him, he alleged.  A case has been registered. TNS

30 fall ill after consuming ‘lassi’

Abohar: As many as 30 persons were admitted to the Civil Hospital in Raisinghnagar, hometown of Sriganganagar Lok Sabha member Nihal Chand Meghwal, after they consumed “lassi” at a free stall in a border village that was put up on Nirmala Ekadashi on Thursday. Additional staff was called to give treatment to the patients. A team of the Health Department was dispatched to Chak 37PS village to take sample of the drink that was served to people. OC

Faridkot resident held for blackmail

Abohar: The Sriganganagar police arrested Satnam Singh Jassi, resident of Bajakhana in Faridkot, on Wednesday for allegedly blackmailing 23-year-old girl in a border village. The Hindumalkot police said the victim girl had lodged an FIR in January against Jassi, who allegedly had clicked some objectionable pictures of the girl in an orchard and started blackmailing her. Addict dies of drug overdose

Fazilka: Malkit Singh (30) has allegedly died due to overdose of drugs at Mohkam Arian village in Jalalabad subdivision of the district. Sources said Malkit Singh allegedly took some drugs in the night and he fell ill on Thursday morning. He died on the way to the hospital. Village sarpanch Balbir Singh said Malkit was a drug addict.
