Gurjot Singh (99) and Sukhjinder Singh (52) helped hosts Ludhiana reach 255 runs in their first innings in the super league match against Chandigarh in the ongoing Punjab Inter-District Cricket Tournament for Katoch Shield being played at GRD Academy ground, Hambran Road, here on Wednesday.
Opting to bat first, Ludhiana had a dismal start, losing the wicket of opener Sunny Pandey without scoring a run.
The other opener, Gurjot Singh, who had scored double century (201*) in the first match against Ropar, in partnership with Kashish Pasneja, took the score to 75 before the latter left after a patient innings of 25 runs.
Ludhiana lost another wicket at the same score (75) but Gurjot and Geetansh Khera shared a 79-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Geetanash contributed 25 runs, while Gurjot was back to the pavilion after chipping in with 90 runs as the scoreboard read 154 for 4.
Sukhjinder Singh, who came in at number seven, and Ludhiana skipper, Baltej Singh, who joined him at the fall of eighth wicket, batted with cool head and steered their side to reach 255 runs in 92.4 overs. Sukhinder made 52 runs, while Balteh chipped in with 29 runs.
In between, Krishan Kumar scored 10 runs and added useful 37 runs for the seventh wicket with Sukhjinder.
For visitors, Raman Bishnoi and Arpit Singh Pannu were the main wicket takers, scalping four victims each after conceding 45 and 60 runs, respectively, while Jagjit Singh claimed one wicket for 42 runs and Bhagminder Singh grabbed one wicket for 65 runs.
