Experts discuss fundamentals of wireless communication

A six-day TEQIP-III sponsored faculty development programme is being organised by Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana, in sync with Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Institute of Engineering and Technology, Pragatinagar, Shimla, under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), New Delhi, from June 10 to June 15 at Testing and Consultancy Hall, GNDEC, Ludhiana.

GNDEC Principal Sehijpal Singh spoke about the contribution of TEQIP-III initiatives for holding such beneficial development programmes. Prof Ameeta Seehra, head, ECE department, GNDEC, Ludhiana, specified how innovations in optical fibre technology is revolutionising the world communication.

Keynote speaker Manoj Kumar spoke about various optical networks, optical laws, opto-electrical conversions, dispersion management and WDM system.

He discussed about cross talk issues and non-linearity effects in fibre. He mentioned that this course would pave way for enhancing R&D activities in the field of wireless and optical networks.

Eminent speakers and dignitaries of national and regional repute Brijesh Kumbhani and Vishwa Pal, IIT-Ropar; Sukhleen Bindra, GNDU, Amritsar; Manjit Singh Bhamrah, Punjabi University; Vrinda Gupta, NIT Kurukshetra; Yamuna Prasad, IIT Jammu; SS Gill, NITTTR and many more experts from respective fields would deliver expert talks in the coming days on fundamentals of wireless communication, photonic crystals and wireless sensor networks. They will be enriching participants from different parts of India by sharing their experiences.

Assistant Professor Baljeet Kaur, who is the co-ordinator of FDP, enlightened about the course contents. She specified that this course was planned to start from the fundamentals of wireless and communication to the latest trends of wireless and optical networks.

She said lab sessions have been planned for researchers for demonstration of software tools. According to Prof Harminder Kaur, co-cordinator of FDP, around 40 faculty members and research scholars from different colleges are participating in the course.
