Srinagar: The J&K Crime Department would decide the next step in the Kathua rape and murder case after reading the judgment on the acquittal of Vishal Jangotra.

“We will examine the judgment and take the next step,” IGP (Crime) Ahfad-ul-Mujtaba said when asked if the department would appeal against the acquittal of one of the accused.

Vishal Jangotra, alias Shamma, the son of the main accused Sanji Ram, was also accused of raping the girl. However, the Pathankot Special Court acquitted him on Monday. He was the only accused who was acquitted by the court, which held three others guilty in the rape and murder of the eight-year-old girl last year. Three others were held guilty for destruction of evidence. — TNS
