The Council of RTI Activists has complained to the Punjab State Human Rights Commission against the Municipal Corporation (MC) for not taking required measures to control stray dog bite cases in the city.

In his complaint, the association secretary, Arvind Sharma, stated that a stray dog attacked a nurse at Model Town recently. With efforts of some people, she was saved from the stray dog, who bit on her leg, he said.

“Earlier, a man was attacked by stray dogs in the area a few days ago. Dogs had badly bitten on his arm,” he claimed in his complaint to the panel.

“Stray dog bite cases are increasing in the city at an alarming rate as the MC authorities have turned a blind eye towards the problem,” he added.

He demanded that the State Human Rights Commission should look into the matter and direct the civic body to take requisite steps to control the stray dogs menace in the city.

The activist had earlier too filed complaints against the MC for not taking required measures to control stray dog bite cases. However, MC officials had earlier claimed that they were taking all steps to control population of stray dogs. The project for sterilisation of stray dogs was underway, civic body officials added.
