School students told about child abuse

The District Legal Service Authority (DLSA), Udhampur, on Friday hosted a day-long awareness programme on legal protection against child abuse and sexual violence at Delhi Public School, Udhampur.

The awareness camp was held under the chairmanship of Sub-Judge Sandeep Kour, who is also the secretary, DLSA, Udhampur. It aimed to enlighten students about the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act

Child psychologist Malika Gautam, principal of Delhi Public School and retainer lawyer Swatanter Dev and Sanjit Kumar were present on the occasion.

The programme started with a brief introduction about the Act by the resource person, Malika Gautam, and Anmol Rathore, who demonstrated to the students good and bad touch.

Sandeep Kour talked about sexual abuse and rights of children. She said the aim of organising the programme was to educate every child about his/her rights guaranteed under different laws and the ways to fight any kind of physical, sexual, emotional or psychological abuse, at home or outside. She also spoke on the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Childen) Act.

She urged parents and teachers to immediately contact the legal service authority, police or court in case any child abuse case takes place. She also asked the students to learn from the awareness session and be the ambassadors of change by sharing awareness of child rights to each student, siblings and friends to stop child abuse in society. — OC
