The ruling BJP retained the Karnal seat with a historic margin. Its candidate Sanjay Bhatia (in pic) defeated his nearest rival former speaker and Congress candidate Kuldeep Sharma by a margin of 6,56,142 lakh votes.

While Bhatia received 9,11,594 votes, Kuldeep got 2,55,452. All other 14 candidates lost their security deposits as they could not receive 1/6th of the total polled votes. Moreover, NOTA polled 5,439 votes, surpassing vote share of 10 candidates.

The victory margin of Bhatia is the highest in Haryana. Moreover, he broke the previous record of Karnal set by outgoing MP Ashwini Chopra in 2014, who won the seat with the margin of 3,60,147 votes, which that time was a record. Chopra had received 5,94,817 votes. — TNS
