Five days after the death of a 22-year-old youth, who died in custody, the district police today showed the footage of the CCTV, installed on the premises of the CIA here, to the family members of youth Jaspal Singh to support the theory of the latter committing suicide in jail on May 19.

After allegedly disposing of the body, inspector Narinder Singh, incharge of the CIA staff in Faridkot, also committed suicide on May 19.

The police claimed that the youth ended his life by hanging himself, using a blanket as a rope, in a room on the CIA premises, hours after he was rounded up by Narinder.

For the past three days, the family members of the deceased were sitting on a dharna in front of the SSP officer here. Alleging that the youth was tortured to death in the lock-up, they were demanding registration of a murder case against five cops.

It is alleged that with the help of two police constables, Narinder had dumped the youth’s body in Rajasthan Feeder canal. The police also relied upon a “suicide note” written on the wall. In the suicide note, purportedly written by the youth, he had blamed two persons, including a woman, for taking the extreme step. To justify the delay in showing the suicide note, the police claimed that before ending his life, Jaspal had used his blood to write on the wall. However, Narinder, before disposing of the body, had wiped the “suicide note” with a damp sponge. But, one of the accused police constables had clicked its photo, which was handed over to the SIT.
