The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today filed a chargesheet in a special court in Mumbai against three arrested and wanted accused, including Harpal Singh, alias Happy, and a Cyprus-based alleged Khalistani militant Gurjeet Singh Nijjar, in a case relating to alleged attempts to revive Sikh militancy in the country.

In a statement, the anti-terror probe agency said, “The chargesheet has been filed in the Special NIA Court, Mumbai, against arrested and wanted accused, namely Harpal Singh, alias Happy, Mohiuddin Siddiqui, alias Moin Khan, and Gurjeet Singh Nijjar, under different sections of the IPC, Arms Act and UAPA.”

The chargesheet has also been filed against another arrested accused Sunder Lal Parashar under various sections for facilitating them to obtain illegal arm and ammunition, it added.

Accused Harpal Singh was arrested by the ATS, Maharashtra, and an illegal weapon along with five live rounds was seized from his possession. “During investigation, Mohiuddin Siddiqui, a wanted accused, was arrested on December 24, 2018. The case was taken over by the NIA for probe,” the agency said.

During the course of its investigation into the case, the NIA found that Harpal Singh, the accused number one, Siddiqui and wanted accused Gurjeet Singh Nijjar had entered into “a criminal conspiracy to commit terrorist act for the formation of separate Khalistan state” and “have been making attempt to revive Sikh militancy”.

In the chargesheet, the NIA has also alleged that the three accused persons “used to post videos and images containing praises of militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, Jagtar Singh Hawara (a convicted accused in the assassination of Beant Singh, former Chief Minister of Punjab), images and videos of Operation Bluestar of 1984 and pro-Khalistani posts related to the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) with the sole intention of motivating vulnerable Sikh youth and others to join the Khalistan movement in India with the ultimate objective of separate Khalistan state”.

The investigations also revealed that the accused persons had arranged illegal weapon and ammunition. During the course of its probe the NIA arrested Sunder Lal Parashar, resident of Rajouri Garden, New Delhi, on April 24, 2019, who is alleged to have supplied a country-made pistol to accused Moin Khan, who later sold it to Harpal Singh and the same was subsequently recovered from his possession.

“Probe revealed that a wanted accused, Gurjeet Singh (Nijjar), a native of Amritsar (rural) district and presently residing in Cyprus, is the main conspirator of this case and operating with his accomplices from Cyprus through Facebook, WhatsApp and IMO,” the NIA said.
