Ropar, May 22

A resident of nearby Pachranda village live-streamed his suicide attempt on Facebook by consuming celphos tablets here yesterday.

The victim, Sodhi Ram, said he was compelled to end his life after his wife Pushpa deserted him and her paramour was threatening him of raping their three-year-old daughter.

Following his statement, the police booked Amarjeet Singh of Saidpur village, his wife Kuldeep Kaur, Pushpa and two others.

Sodhi Ram said his wife after deserting him had been living with her married paramour, while he was taking care of his two children, including a three-year-old daughter. He alleged that for the past few months, Amarjeet Singh was threatening to rape his three-year-old daughter. Feeling helpless, he decided to end his life.

Soon after he consumed poison, the relatives in the village shifted him to a hospital.

Ropar SSP Swapan Sharma said a case under Sections 354 and 506 of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act had been registered against five persons.
