Muklawa is a period drama that makes Ammy Virk and Sonam Bajwa take on the roles of Shinda and Taaro; it is a film that will evoke love and longing.

Starting with the name Muklawa — it is an erstwhile tradition when a girl married early, but was sent to the in-laws only after a certain age. The waiting period could be anything from a few days to a few years; this movie charts the story of a husband and wife desperately trying to meet. No phones, not such an open society, this is a love story set among joint families!

Steeped in tradition

“I am the hero of this film,” BN Sharma surprises all present, as Ammy nods. He clarifies how it’s a story steeped in tradition. While the trailer looks interesting, Ammy and Sonam are pretty positive considering the response that it has got so far.

So, why two big Punjabi releases on the same day? Ammy is self-assured, “It’s not the first time, Ardaas and Love Punjab both did well. And we believe it’s going to be a repeat.” The question comes back time and again with May 24 seeing biopic on PM Narendra Modi as well. What if he makes the government and people rush to see it, exasperated Ammy cannot help but retort, “If the content is good, both our Punjabi films would be hits, if not both would be flop!”

Talking B-town

Resting the case here, we move to Qismat star’s debut stint in Hindi film 83. “The film goes on floors next month and going by the workshops, it’s going to be an amazing innings.”

Leading lady

Talking of Sonam Bajwa; she would seen be seen shaking a leg in Varun Dhawan, Prabhudheva and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Street Dancer. “That just for a song, a Punjabi one for which they needed a Punjabi face, I fitted the bill.” While she awaits her Bollywood debut , Muklawa it is, clashing with Chandigarh Amritsar Chandigarh!
