Nurpur, May 21

The mysterious death of Ketan (11), a Class VI student of Government Senior Secondary School, Charuri in Sukhar gram panchayat in Nurpur, on May 15 took a new turn today when local residents held a protest in front of the school against its authorities and the Gangath police for taking it casually.

The family and relatives of the deceased alleged that he died following an attack on his head.

Ichhya Devi, mother of the deceased, a widow and resident of Ghatot village in a complaint to the Chief Minister, DGP and SP, Kangra, alleged that the Gangath police were trying to hush up the case and the school administration had taken it casually.

She said while playing in the school ground before prayer, her son was attacked by another student with a stick and he fell unconscious. “His head, nose and mouth started bleeding. But the school management failed to provide him timely treatment and he succumbed on the way from the Tanda medical college to the PGI, Chandigarh,” she alleged. The police had not registered her complaint despite several requests.

Following public outcry, DSP Sahil Arora rushed to the spot where student was attacked and examined it. He assured the relatives and family members of the deceased of fair inquiry into the case. The police recorded the statements of the family members and locals.

Santosh Patial, DIG, Kangra, said the villagers and relatives also met him in the Nurpur police station this evening. “I have directed the inquiry officer to record the statements of students who were the witnesses and take further action. The police are still awaiting the post-mortem report conducted at the Tanda medical college, Kangra,” he said.
