Over 12K first-time voters cast vote in Faridkot constituency

FARIDKOT: Anxious and ambitious, as many as 12,842 first-time voters in the nine Assembly segments of the Faridkot parliamentary constituency cast their vote in this Lok Sabha elections.

Anxious and ambitious, as many as 12,842 first-time voters in the nine Assembly segments of the Faridkot parliamentary constituency cast their vote in this Lok Sabha elections.

District Election Officer Kumar Saurav Raj said the Faridkot parliamentary constituency had 27,149 young and first-time voters and of them, 8,003 were from three Assembly segments — Jaito, Kotkapura and Faridkot. Of these 8,003 first-time voters, as many as 3,605 (45.04 per cent) voters exercised their franchise on Sunday.

Sharing the details of all nine Assembly segments, Kumar Saurav said the highest participation of the new voters in this Lok Sabha elections was witnessed in the Baghapurana Assembly segments with 1,833 new voters casting their votes.

It was followed by 1,797 in Gidderbaha, 1,633 in Nihal Singh Wala, 1,555 in Rampura Phul, 1,410 in Faridkot, 1,351 in Moga, 1,122 in Kotkapura, 1,073 in Jaito and 1,068 in the Dharamkot Assembly segment of the Faridkot Lok Sabha constituency.

Of the total 15,35,716 registered voters in the Faridkot Lok Sabha constituency, as many as 9,70,811 — 5,24,829 male and 4,45,969 females — exercised their franchise.

A total of 1,743 persons with disability cast their votes this time, said Kumar Saurav.

A total of 8,16,208 voters used the Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) issued by the Election Commission of India for their identification at the time of voting.

A total of 1,54,603 voters showed other identity cards, including Aadhaar card and driving licence, for their identification.

Most of the young and first-time voters cast their votes with a clear vision for the country’s future. They said they expect leaders to focus on “real issues” such as jobs and farmer distress.

At the cusp of their careers, many youths who are desperate to go abroad on education visa, want future lawmakers to change the narrative for the betterment of the country.
