The SAD-BJP candidate for Ludhiana parliamentary constituency, Maheshinder Singh Grewal, has raised the issue of excess votes in two electronic voting machines (EVMs) in two Assembly constituencies with the Election Commission of India (ECI).

According to reports, 51 votes were found to be in excess of the number of votes polled in one of the electronic voting machines (EVM) in booth no. 53 of the Ludhiana Central Assembly segment.

Similarly, 50 excess votes were found in another machine in booth no. 59 of the Ludhiana North Assembly segment.

Returning Officer of Ludhiana North Sonam Chaudhry, however, clarified that this was no big issue as the votes cast on these particular EVMs during mock polls were not deleted. “The votes polled in the booth were matched by VVPAT slips and the polling agents of all candidates had signed the final tally,” she added.
