Kangra records 66.18% turnout

DHARAMSALA: Kangra witnessed a turnout of 66.18 per cent in the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Sunday.

Kangra witnessed a turnout of 66.18 per cent in the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Sunday.

Sources said the polling percentage was better in the four constituencies of Chamba district, which was recorded at 70.72.

The turnout at Nurpur was recorded at 72.93 per cent, Indora 64.39 per cent, Fatehpur 71.05 per cent, Jawali 61.97 per cent, Dehra (part of Hamirpur constituency) 67.88 per cent, Jaswan Pragpur (part of Hamirpur constituency) 69.69 per cent , Jwalamukhi 74.28 per cent, Jaisinghpur 56 per cent, Sullah 59.54 per cent, Nagrota 73.50 per cent, Kangra 74.94 per cent, Shahpur 62.03 per cent, Dharamsala 61.69 per cent, Palampur 59.58 per cent and Baijnath 55.88 per cent.

In the constituencies of Chamba, Churrah recorded a turnout of 72.57 per cent, Chamba 70.72 per cent, Dalhouise 66.65 per cent and Bhattiyat 70.72 per cent.

The polling remained peaceful in the entire constituency, except for a minor snag in the EVM at Nagrota Bagwan.In Bara Bhangal, the remotest polling station in Kangra, 75 men and 60 women cast their vote. BJP candidate Kishan Kapoor along with members of his family cast his vote at Khaniara village. Congress candidate Pawan Kajal cast his vote at Matour. Tibetan voters also exercised their franchise at McLeodganj.
