Una district tops with 75.88 pc turnout

The polling percentage in Una district was reported at 75.88 per cent. This is 4.43 per cent better than the 2014 elections.

The Gagret segment topped the poll percentage with 77.16 per cent, followed by Haroli with 76.21 per cent and Kutlehar 73.20 per cent. The Una segment recorded 71.86 per cent polling, while the Chintpurni segment polled the least percentage of votes in the district at 70.49 per cent.

While no untoward incident was reported from any part of the district, there were a few incidents of snags in EVMs and VVPAT systems.

Most of 103 centenarians, who had been made the brand ambassadors for public awareness campaigns by the district election department, also exercised their franchise.

The oldest voter of the district, Kashmir Singh (107), cast his vote at Ispur village of the Haroli segment. He has never missed even a single election. Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Prajapati visited him to invite for voting.

Dhani Ram (104), a resident of Dhussara village of the Chintpurni segment, was escorted to the polling station by his family members. Bishani Devi, 106-year-old, of Bhadauri village in the Haroli segment and 105-year-old Karmo Devi of Mehatpur in the Una segment also participated in the electoral process.

State BJP president Satpal Singh Satti cast his vote at the Tabba polling station, while the Leader of the Opposition, Mukesh Agnihotri,exercised his franchise at his native Gondpur Bulla village. Rural Development Minister Virender Kanwar cast his franchise at Kyarian village in the Kutlehar segment.
