Panchayat acts on illegal sale of tubewell water

Faridabad: Residents of Pali village in the district held a panchayat on Sunday, demanding a check on illegal sale and supply of water from the tubewells in the village. The meeting was chaired by sarpanch Sundar Singh and was attended by over 100 residents. Expressing anguish over the round the clock supply of water from over a dozen tubewells in the village, the residents claimed it was depleting the groundwater table here. An official of NGO ‘Save Aravalli’ Jitender Bhadana alleged that water from the tubewells was being sold in the market at Rs 800 per tanker by the mafia enjoying the patronage of the civic authorities. 

‘Rahgiri’ takes a right turn  

Karnal: Members of the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Karnal city, on Sunday distributed bowls and feed for the birds to residents of the city. JCI president Puneet Jain said they had been providing bowls and feed to the residents for the last several years requested the residents to keep the bowls on the roofs of their houses so that the birds could drink water in the scorching heat. The JCI members distributed the bowls under the ‘Rahgiri’ programme in Sector 12. The step was appreciated by the residents. A JCI member Vikas Kathuria said they would continue the initiative.

Rohtak doctors go green

Rohtak: To conserve the environment, doctors at the Civil Hospital, here started a novel trend of planting saplings on the hospital premises on their birthdays. Civil Hospital medical superintendent, Dr Ramesh Chander, said the doctors would also take care of the plants. “The underlying idea is to give out a message of celebrating our birthdays in an eco-friendly way,” he said, adding that the birthdays of other staff members of the hospital could also be celebrated in this manner.

Modern technologies helping patients

Yamunanagar: The Fortis Hospital, Mohali, has come out with technologies that will ensure quicker and painless treatment of patients with varicose veins (superficial veins that become enlarged and twisted). These technologies include diode lasers, Nd-YAG lasers, radio frequency ablation, foam sclerotherapy, glue ablation and mechanochemical endovenous ablation (MOCA) techniques. Interacting with mediapersons at Yamunanagar on Saturday, Dr Ravul Jindal, director, vascular surgery, Fortis Hospital, said these techniques allow patients to leave the hospital within an hour of treatment.
