Khattar steps in to facilitate EWS students’ admission

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has stepped in to facilitate the admission of nearly 79,000 students belonging to below poverty line/economically weaker sections in private schools under Rule 134-A of the Haryana Education (Third Amendment), 2013.

With the Chief Minister intervening in the matter and directing the officials concerned to settle the fee reimbursement claims of the private schools immediately, the stage is set for the admission of poor students to the private schools.

Under the first phase, admission process of the 52,226 students, who had been allotted private schools on the basis of their eligibility, would be completed by May 25. The admission process, including the school allotment process, of the remaining 26,756 students would be completed subsequently, sources said.

These directions came on Saturday at a high-level meeting, presided over by Khattar and attended by Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary (Higher Education) Anil Kumar and Director General (Secondary Education) Rakesh Gupta among others.

It may be recalled that 78,982 students had passed the examination conducted under Rule 134-A. Out of these, 52,226 students were allotted schools on the basis of their merit list and schools selected by them on a priority basis. 

Now, the admission process of these 52,226 students, who had already been allotted schools on the basis of the draw of lots, would be completed by May 25. The school allocation process of the remaining 26,756 students would be completed within a week.

Under Section 134-A, there is a quota of 10% in the private schools for the BPL\/EWS students, who are given free education. Sources said the pending amount of the school fees would be reimbursed to the private schools immediately. 

The private schools have also been asked to send the verified claims of reimbursement of fees through the District Education Officer concerned within three days so that their claims could be settled.
