Two miscreants were shot dead while one received bullet wounds in a gang war today near the Dwarka Mor Metro Station, said a police official.

The gunfight between two groups of gangsters - Manjeet Mahal and Nandu - took place at 3.45 pm.

The deceased have been identified as Praveen Gahlot, alias Golu, a closed aid and financer of gangster Manjet Mahal and Vikas Dalal, a closed aid of Nandu.

Police said Gahlot was shot dead by his rival gang members during the gang war while Dalal was shot down by the Delhi Police official posted on a patrolling PCR van after the gangsters started indiscriminately firing at the police team.

Joint Commissioner of Police Madhup Tiwari said, "The shootout took place when Gahlot, who was heading towards Dwarka in his car, reached near the Dwarka Mor Metro Station, the miscreants riding on a motorcycle and a car (bearing Rajasthan registration number) started indiscriminately firing at former's car."

Three persons of the rival gang fired at Gahlot, but he escaped unhurt initially. The miscreants later identified as Vikas Dalal and one of his accomplices came out from the car and reached near Gahlot's car and started firing at him from the close range to ensue his death," Tiwari said.

"When the incident took place, policemen in a PCR van MP-5 patrolling in the area learnt about the gunshot sounds. A constable, Naresh, came out from PCR van with his service revolver and alerted the miscreants who were fleeing the spot. Then they started firing at the police team. Retaliating to this, constable Naresh fired three rounds at them and the bullets hit Dalal and one of his accomplices. Meanwhile, another accomplice managed to flee the spot in the car," Tiwari added.

Police said the PCR police officials rushed all the three injured to a nearby hospital where doctors declared Gahlot brought death while Dalal died in the hospital during treatment. Gahlot had received three bullets. Meanwhile, Dalal's accomplice, who has not been identified yet, admitted to the hospital and his condition is stated to be critical.

Police have kept the bodies for autopsy and a case has been registered on the statement of constable Naresh at the Bindapur Police Station, the official said.
