Gurdaspur: Voting in Gurdaspur, where PPCC chief Sunil Jakhar is engaged in an enthralling contest with BJP-SAD’s Sunny Deol, remained peaceful. Verbal skirmishes between rival supporters were reported from some places, but timely intervention by the police ensured they didn’t snowball into major incidents. SSP Swarandeep Singh and his Batala counterpart Opinderjit Singh Ghuman toured various segments with paramilitary forces. In Pathankot, SSP Vivek Sheel Soni took the charge. Maximum voting was reported from Sujanpur. Jakhar toured eight seats while Deol visited the areas where the BJP feared that “the Congress may fare well”. Jakhar said, “The voters are all set to defeat the divisive agenda of PM Modi. As expected, they have given their stamp of approval to the Congress.” Deol was not available for comments.
