Srinagar, May 18

Former Finance Minister Syed Mohammsad Altaf Bukhari called on Governor Satya Pal Malik at Raj Bhawan here on Friday evening and sought his intervention in expediting developmental works.

According to a statement issued by Bukhari, he brought issues of public importance to the Governor’s notice and also discussed with him the progress of Central and the state government developmental schemes under implementation in Srinagar city.

The former minister urged the Governor to expedite the works for their early completion. Bukhari also emphasised the need for construction of grade separators at the Sanat Nagar, Nowgam and Bemina crossings. He urged the Governor to facilitate the approval and release of funds so that the work on the projects was started at the earliest.

The former minister also highlighted the importance of the projects in minimising accidents and decongesting traffic at the junctions. He also demanded blacktopping of roads in the Gangbugh area of Amirakadal, where the major project of drainage had been already completed during the last elected government.

Bukhari also discussed the importance of establishing an irrigation pump station in view of frequently interrupted irrigation water supply for 115 acres of paddy and other agriculture land in Rawalpora and its adjoining areas. He also demanded establishment of a government primary health centre and a government primary school at Mehjoor Nagar on identified government land. The statement said the Governor promised the former minister of all cooperation from his administration in mitigating the sufferings of people.
