JNU student commits suicide

NEW DELHI: A JNU student allegedly committed suicide today by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in a study room of the university, said DCP Devender Arya. The student was identified as Rishi Thomas and was residing in Mahi Mandavi boy hostel. He was a MA 2nd year student in School of Language. Before committing suicide, Thomas had written a mail to his English professor who called police informing them he has received a suicide note in his e-mail. Preliminary inquiry suggests no foul play and further probe is underway, said the DCP. — TNS

Woman killed over spilling water outside her house

A 40-year-old woman was murdered in Mahipalpur yesterday. Her neighbour, a 22-year-old boy, picked up a quarrel with her over the spilling of water. And in a fit of rage, the boy stabbed the woman to death. The woman was washing her utensils outside her house due to which the water got spilt all over. It angered her neighbour. The accused has been arrested. — TNS
