Jalandhar, May 17
It was a rain-drenched campaign for the candidates on the last day of canvassing as polling came to an end on Friday.
The campaigns of Congress’ Santokh Chaudhary, SAD’s Charanjit Singh Atwal, AAP’s Justice Jora Singh and BSP’s Balwinder Singh ended with huge roadshows. While Chaudhary, his wife and son split into two teams, holding two separate roadshows, the family of SAD candidate Charanjit Singh Atwal also participated in various rallies.
Meanwhile, AAP candidate Jora Singh’s son and daughter joined him during his roadshow. BSP candidate Balwinder Singh, who has been donning a yellow or blue turban, especially for his campaign, held a big rally across Bhogpur, Nakodar and Nurmahal.
A massive roadshow was organised in the city for Chaudhary. Even artistes were seen performing to various tunes at several chowks. Chaudhary’s campaign has also been marked with flash mob.
Karamjit Kaur and Shveta Chaudhary, wife and daughter-in-law, respectively, of Chaudhary Santokh Singh started their roadshow from Nakodar Chowk, culminating at the Company Bagh Chowk before touching Jyoti Chowk, Milap Chowk and other areas of the walled city.
Chaudhary himself canvassed from the Congress Bhawan near the District Administrative Complex and culminated at Chaudhary Santokh Singh’s house, encompassing Shastri Market Chowk, Press Club Chowk, Compnay Bagh Chowk, Jyoti Chowk and Basti Adda Chowk before reaching Football Chowk.
Local MLAs Sushil Kumar Rinku, Rajinder Beri and Mayor Jagdish Raj Raja and Kaku Ahluwalia participated. Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary, son of the Congress candidate, was seen riding a motorbike, occasionally walking with the crowd.
At Atwal’s campaign, SAD leader Sarabjit Singh Makkar, accompanied by Atwal’s son, led the roadshow. Atwal’s wife participated in a separate rally in the city. BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia also held another roadshow for Atwal on Thursday. The campaign of AAP Justice Jora Singh also concluded with a big roadshow across Jalandhar in which he was joined by his wife Jinder Kaur (former principal). Even as Jora Singh canvassed in the rain, Chaudhary canvassed in an open vehicle where he was shielded from the rain with workers holding an umbrella for him.
