Panchkula, May 17

Girls have once again outshone boys in Panchkula district by bagging the first three positions in the HSEB Class X exams, results of which were declared today.

All 10 meritorious positions in the district have been bagged by 13 girls. Out of them, only one is from a private school affiliated to the HSEB.

Government schools in the district have shown remarkable increase in pass percentage — from 44.14 per cent in 2017-18 to 53.23 per cent in 2018-19. However, the district slipped to the 18th position in the state this year from the 15th position last year.

Dr HS Saini, District Education Officer, said 4,879 students had taken the exams and 2,579 have cleared. “About 177 students have got compartment and 2,105 students have failed. There are 65 government schools and 22 private schools affiliated to the HSEB,” he said.

He lauded the school teachers and students for the better performance.

Farmer’s daughter 10th in district

Panchkula: Tamanna, the daughter of a farmer, has made her parents proud by scoring 94 per cent in the HSEB Class X exams and bagging the 10th position in the district. A native of Hisar, Tamanna said her father Surinder Sihag is a marginal farmer and her mother Susheela is a housewife. She said she would pursue non-medical and would become an engineer. “I used to study for six to seven hours a day. I did not have a mobile phone,” said Tamanna. She has been living in Panchkula with her uncle. Ranvir Malik, Tamanna’s uncle, said she was focused and never opted for a tuition.
