The Congress sounded unclear about its post poll strategy on the question of Prime Minister ship with party veteran Ghulam Nabi Azad saying in Shimla on Friday that the party would naturally stake claim.

At a press conference in Shimla where he is on Election tour AICC veteran Azad said: “No, this is not true that the Congress will not claim or Congress is not interested in Prime Minister post. Of course we are the biggest and oldest political party. If we have to run the government for five years biggest political party should be given a chance.”

Yesterday, Azad had said the Congress would be flexible on the issue.

In a separate remark Congress media head Randeep Surjewala indicated flexibility on the issue saying the Congress would be the single largest party and would lead any potential anti-BJP coalition but “the Congress will also take on board the opinion of friendly and like-minded parties on the issue.”
