The Punjab State Committee of the MCPI (U), in a meeting presided over by Pawan Kumar Kaushal, decided to intervene in the Lok Sabha elections with the objective to defeat the Congress and BJP-SAD alliance and strengthen the Left, democratic and secular forces in the state.

“The Congress government has not lived up to the expectations of the people in its two-year rule and SAD-BJP are pursuing the agenda of communal divide in the name of national security, which is dangerous for the democratic fabric of the country and diverting the attention of the people from real issues,” said MCPI (U) leaders.

They said the ‘anti-people’ policies of the Centre and the state government had been creating chaos in the country and the day-to-day law and order situation was deteriorating.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, communal violence is on the rise, which is creating an atmosphere of mob lynching,” they added.

MCPI (U) has, at the same time, decided to support Simarjit Singh Bains of the Lok Insaaf Party from Ludhiana, Dr Dharamvir Gandhi of Nava Punjab Party from Patiala, Bhagwant Singh Mann of AAP from Sangrur, Lashkar Singh of CPI-ML Red Flag from Chandigarh and Raghunath Singh of CPI (M) from Anandpur Sahib.
