Top seed Chirag eases into semis

CHANDIGARH:Top seed Chirag Dhuan of Haryana overpowered seventh seed Aditya Nandal to qualify for the semifinals of the boys’ U-16 category in the ongoing CLTA-AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament at the Sector 10 CLTA Complex today.

Top seed Chirag Dhuan of Haryana overpowered seventh seed Aditya Nandal to qualify for the semifinals of the boys’ U-16 category in the ongoing CLTA-AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament at the Sector 10 CLTA Complex today.

Dhuan was in full control of the match, pulling off a 6-1 7-6(3) victory over Nandal.

Fifth seed Dhanya Shah of Gujarat also moved into the last four by defeating Ansh Kundu of Haryana 6-1 6-0 without facing much difficulties.

Qualifier Ajay Kundu continued his winning spree as he returned from a set down to defeat Haryana’s eighth seed Yogee Panwar 3-6 7-5 6-3. Dhuhan became the fourth semifinalist by defeating Hardik Choudhary of Uttar Pradesh 6-1 6-1.

In the boys’ U-18 category, top seed Haryana’s Sushant Dabas had an easy 6-2 6-4 victory against his state-mate Deepender Grewal. Fourth seed Divesh Gahlot of Haryana also moved to the next round by registering a 7-5 6-2 victory against Nitin Jaipal Singh, while Uttarakhand’s Drona Walia stunned second seed Krish Patel of Gujarat 6-4 6-0.

Fifth seed Karan Singh of Haryana, meanwhile, fought hard to defeat Delhi’s Akhilendran Indrabala 7-6(2) 2-6 6-2 and fourth seed Divesh Gahlot easily overpowered eighth seed Nitin Jaipal Singh of Haryana 7-5 6-2.

Reene, Kaavya in semis

Top seed Renee Singla of Haryana moved into in the girls’ U-16 semis by registering an easy 6-1 6-0 win against sixth seed Kavya Khirwar. Fourth seed Sanvi Ahluwalia of Delhi also progressed after defeating seventh seed Kanupriya Rajawat of Rajasthan 6-2 6-3, while Haryana’s Disha Sehrawat recovered from a set down to defeat Lakshmi Gowda of Delhi 1-6 7-5 7-5.

In the last quarterfinal, fifth seed Haryana’s Anjali Rathi blanked Tanushri Pandey of Uttar Pradesh 6-0 6-3. In the girls’ U-18 category, top seed Kaavya Sawhney of Haryana faced tough resistance from Shreya Gulia before logging a 5-7 6-3 6-3 victory to sail into the semis.

Second seed Vanshika Choudhary of Uttar Pradesh also returned from a set down to log a stunning 4-6 6-1 7-6(1) victory against Anjali Rathi. In other matches, Lagan Bidhan easily defeated Rajasthan’s Kanupriya Rajawat 6-4 6-3 and fourth seed Renne Singla blanked Prinkle Singh 6-1 6-1.

Ajay-Aditya advance

The top-seeded pair of Ajay Kundu and Aditya Nandal overpowered Yashsvi Hooda and Divanshu Hooda 6-3 6-3 to make their way into the semis of the boys’ U-16 doubles category. 

The second-seeded team of Jitin Kumar Chetry and Sukhpreet Singh Jhoje also moved to the next stage by defeating Sarabjot Singh and Gurustat Sing Makkar 6-3 1-6 10-4, while third seeds Sarthak Gandhi and Ajay Singh defeated Gaurav Kumar and Navya Verma 6-2 6-4. Fourth seeds Ansh Kundu and Lakhsya Batra stunned Lakshya Gupta and Aditya Chauhan 7-5 2-6 10-2. 

In the girls’ U-18 category, the top-seeded duo of Vanshika Chaudhary and Sandeepti Singh Rao blanked Kanupriya Rajawat and Anoushka Sharma 6-3 6-0. The third seed pair of Sai Rajesh Bhoyar and Suryanshi Tanwar also moved into the semis by defeating Kriti Tomar and Kaavya Palani 6-1 6-0. 

In the last quarterfinal, Harleen Kaur and Simran Pritam logged a 6-3 6-2 win against Hannah Nagpal and Kavya Khirwar 6-3 6-2. — TNS
